A sustainable store according to the Green Office

The objective of these interactive maps is to present local and sustainable stores in Liege and Gembloux. The stores listed are distinguished according to different criteria relating to the environment, the economy and the social aspect. Sustainability is therefore a transversal and essential element in their values.

The environment

All of the stores selected have an eco-responsible approach to their products and their operations. In a non-exhaustive way, these stores can propose :

• Items produced as locally as possible, when feasible.
• Articles in bulk and/or with environmentally friendly packaging.
• Products from organic and/or sustainable agriculture.
• Products according to seasonality.
• A system to limit food waste.
• A fight against overconsumption.
• And so on.

The social aspect

The human being takes a predominant place in the functioning of a company, whether he is a worker or a consumer. The company rightly considers them by granting them decent working conditions.

For example:

• It can provide work to people with disabilities or living in a disadvantaged social context.
• It organizes solidarity actions, such as donations for the most disadvantaged.
• It works in short circuit, which allows it to have a direct contact with the producers.
• And so on.

The economy

The stores considered contribute to the functioning of the economy, on their scale, in particular

• By guaranteeing a fair price that takes into account the producer, the buyers and the seller.
• By being an active player in the local economy.
• By promoting the circular economy.
• By participating in the use of a local currency, if there is one.
• And so on.
