Student Surveys

Since its creation, the Green Office has surveyed the University's students on three occasions, in order to determine :

1. Students' perception of unsustainable development
2. How students perceive the sustainable development education they receive at the University
3. Sustainable practices already implemented by students
4. Students' wishes regarding their sustainable practices
5. Their motivations and obstacles to developing these practices
6. Their concrete expectations of the Green Office
7. Students' perception of the activities already implemented by the Green Office

1. Students' perception of the current dominant, unsustainable development
   - 80% of students are worried about their future (average of the three Green Office surveys, identical figure for the French survey)
2. Students' perception of the sustainable development education they receive at university
   - 64.3% say they deal very little or not at all with the notion of sustainability during their studies
   - 73% find information on sustainability during their studies insufficient (identical sentiment in the French survey)
   - 82% consider teaching to be the main tool for informing about CC (Belgian survey - Education4climate)
3. Sustainable practices alreadyin place
   - 87% feel that their actions have an impact in the fight against climate change (survey 1)
4. Students' wishes regarding the implementation of sustainable practices
   - 86% say they want to do more on a daily basis (survey 3)
5. Their motivations and obstacles
   - Motivations: seeing their impact, seeing others take action and the easy, fun aspect
   - Obstacles: lack of time, lack of money, lack of information and fear of losing comfort (surveys 2 and 3)
6. Their concrete expectations of the Green Office
   - They are looking for practical help to contribute to a more sustainable world
   - They want to change the way they consume and thus reduce their environmental impact. (survey 1)
7. Students' perception of the activities already implemented by the Green Office, such as the engagement program
   - 86% of students are in favor of the engagement program and recommend the challenges (surveys 2 and 3)
   - Around 70% find the challenges globally adapted to their situation (surveys 2 and 3)
   - 78% are in favor of participating in the challenges with their teachers as part of a course (survey 3)
   - 78% find it motivating that other colleges and universities participate in the same program

The three Green Office surveys were carried out by HEC ULiège student interns.

• Survey 1 : March 2020 - Coline Geury - 402 respondents including 71% women : Rapport-Enquête-GO-2020-Coline
• Survey 2 : January 2021 - Emeline Baert - 2051 respondents including 70% women : What marketing strategy for the 2021 Green Office challenges program? and also What is the role of the university in training future sustainable development players?
• Survey 3: March 2022 - Laura Germain - 1701 respondents, 67% women: What marketing strategy should the Green Office adopt to mobilize ULiège students to participate in the low-carbon challenge program?
